Thing 7.5 Storytelling with Facebook: Wee Library

Since this is a bonus thing, and not compulsory, and I'm not already using Snapchat or Instagram, I decided to look at the storytelling function on Facebook only. However, I soon discovered that the latest app version of Facebook is not available for my old iPhone, and it isn't available on the web version I have either. I managed to produce this amazing piece of art on my husband's phone. This is from "The Wee Library" in Moville, Co. Donegal. To be fair it does make a fairly flat photo more attractive & attract more attention. I would use it again, and would use it in work if (& when) I get a new phone.

Thing 6: Reflective Practice

Thing 3: Image Banks: Correct attribution, Pixabay and Flickr

Description and Feelings/Thoughts:

I found it valuable to read about copyright and the Creative Commons licensing system and the correct formula for attributing the source of images. However, I found the variety of attributions and slight differences between each one, somewhat confusing, so I judged the safest option is to use an image in the public domain that is free to use, such as those on Pixabay.
Flickr is busier website than Pixabay with a great variety of images, which can be easily searched and search results filtered by copyright restriction. I would have preferred not to have to create an account to use the site, 'though I did so, and uploaded an image to my Flickr account very easily. (See my blog post on Thing 3 for the link)

Evaluation and Analysis:

I found the Pixabay website very easy to use and to find, copy and save images, and I copied images into my blog and used a Halloween image on the Wexford Library facebook page to notify the public of our Halloween opening hours. However, the selection of images is very generic, relatively limited, and American-centric, so there is not a great variety of images for Irish-specific topics. I liked that you didn't need to set up an account to use Pixabay.
Flickr has a larger bank of images and greater facility to filter searches of images by photos, people and groups, and by orientation, size, date, colour etc. So if you were using images a lot and were willing to spend the extra time to find an image that exactly suited your purpose, it would probably yield better results than Pixabay.

Conclusion:

In Pixabay, more browse time might throw up more and better image options. I will use it again. It is a useful and 'copyright safe' tool that is quick and easy to use.
Flickr is more social, and being able to follow other libraries is interesting, but I find it a bit like facebook, with a lot of self-promotion, wedding photos etc. Also I could see a lot of time being spent searching for the perfect image on Flickr, when an adequate image could be found on Pixabay for a fraction of the time. It could be a useful tool for promoting library events and stock, but photo permission is always an issue when sharing photos taken of people in the library, particularly when children are involved.

Rud a 5 / Thing 5: Powtoon

Faoi dheireadh thiar thall d'éirigh liom Powtoon a cruthú agus seo é ag an nasc thíos:

Rud a 5 / Thing 5: Screencast-o-matic

D'éirigh liom taifead a dhéanamh le Screencast-o-matic, conas athnuachan a dhéanamh ar do leabhair ar líne ar suíomh idirlín den catalóg náisiúnta do na leabharlann poiblí.
Bhí sé ceart go leor an taifead a dhéanamh, ach sábháil mé é ar mo ríomhaire (an chéad & an príomhbhotún!):
"C:\Users\dearb\OneDrive\Documents\Screencast-O-Matic\Recordings\RenewBooksOnline.mp4""
In a dhiaidh sin, ní raibh mé ábalta é a uaslódáil ó mo ríomhaire go dtí mo chuntas Screencast-o-matic.

Bhí orm taifead nua a dhéanamh, agus é a uaslódáil díreach go dtí mo chuntas Screencast-o-matic. Seo thíos an nasc arlíne den taifead.

Sin deireadh le cuid a haon de Rud a Cúig, buíochas mór le Dia sna hairde agus gach uile naomh. Tuigim anois cén fáth nach bhfuil naoimh againn sna laethanta seo - tá an saol ró-dheacair agus na rúdaí seo ar bhun againn chun muidne a meabhrú!!

Ag strachaint le Rud a 4 / Thing 4: GoPro Quik & Físeán ró-mhór le OneDrive Pictures

Seo liom arís! Ag gabháil leithscéalta arís. D'éirigh liom GoPro Quik a íoslódáil ar mo ríomhaire glúine aréir, agus anocht bhí mé ag iarriadh triail a bhaint as. Bhí fadhbanna agam leis an suíomh síniú isteach ar dtús, ach d'éirigh liom faoi dheireadh. Bhí dul amú orm ar an suíomh mar tá sé dírithe ar earraí a dhíol - fearais griangraifeadóireachta srl - ceamara, drones srl, ach níl said uaim. Bhí cúpla griangriaf agam ar mo ríomhaire glúine agus bhí sé ar intinn agam físeán gairid a dhéanamh díobh. Nach mise a bhí saonta! Créatúr bocht ag déanamh a dícheall ag strachaint le saol digiteach an 21ú aois oíche Domhnach agus Othelia ag druidim linn! Deireadh an scéil ná is gá a gceamara féin GoPro a cheannach chun an suíomh a úsaid chun físeán a dhéanamh.

"Can I add 3rd party videos/photos in Quik for desktop?

· You cannot add any 3rd party media files into Quik for desktop. It will only find the original SOURCE files coming from a GoPro camera."
Sin deireadh le Quik ar an ríomhaire ar aon nós. B'fhéidir go mbainfidh mé triail as fón póca m'fhearr chéile. Beidh mé ar ais arís amárach.

D'éirigh liom físéan gairid a dhéanamh le OneDrive Pictures ach tá sé ró-mhór agus tá na griangriaf go léir pixelated. Seo thíos:

Rud a 4 / Thing 4: Ripl / Quik

Bhuel d'éirigh liom an ceathrú rud a léamh agus tuigim cad tá i gceist ach....
Ar dtús rinne mé iarracht Ripl a íoslódáil ar mo fón póca, ach is gá iOS 9.0 a bheith agat, agus is dócha go bhuil iOS 0.0 nó rud níos sine ná sin ar ar mo shean fón póca nach bhuil ró cliste. Ní raibh Ripl le fáil don desktop ach oiread.
Ansin chuaigh mé go Quik, féachaint an féidir liom an app sin a íoslódáil, ach an fadhb céanna a bhí ann. Bhí gá le iOS 9.0 freisin. Ach is féidir GoPro Quik a íoslódáil ar an destop, agus tá sin déanta agam faoi dheireadh.
Ach anois, tar éis uaireanta a chaitheamh ar Rudaí 23 gan mórán toradh ar an am sin, tá sé in am dom dul a chodladh! Táim traochta tar éis sé lá oibre sa leabharlann ó Luan go Satharn. Déanfaidh mé iarracht eile amárach. Oíche mhaith.
